The Swing Ray Side Table is inspired by the captivating swing ray and a TikTok video showcasing a magical physics structure with floating cigarette boxes. Taking this concept to new heights, the table features a steel swing ray tabletop suspended above another, resembling two stingrays floating in opposition.

Unlike traditional side tables, the Swing Ray Side Table boasts a dynamic design with a floating tabletop secured by delicate fish lines. Users can interact with it, swinging and playing while utilizing the table. The starry navy color adds a futuristic touch, giving the illusion of a swing ray hovering in mid-air.

Interaction with the table is simple – placing a cup of tea initiates a gentle swing, bringing the piece to life. The challenging process of scaling up the physics structure involved numerous adjustments due to the tricky form and weight distribution of the metal fishes.

Crafted from sheet metal assembled with fish wire, the Swing Ray Side Table is a labor of precision. Laser-cutting the stingray figures, manual bending, and connecting them with fish wire resulted in this innovative furniture piece that captures the essence of playful physics and artistic design.

This collection is designed for my professional practice class "runway meets runway". I used several different materials: leather, acrylic board, Vinyl, chopsticks wrap, steel hoops in this collection. As for the making techniques: I used hand-sewing, sewing machine, laser cut. By adding Chinese traditional elements into my design creates a beauty of fusion in this collection.
